Good luck Patsy. I know it is hard to quit smoking - well, I don't personally know since I have never smoked, but I have some friends that have quit (and I have some friends that have tried and just could not quit) and my Dad quit after many, many years. It won't be easy, but in the end, I think you will feel much better. And just think of all the tarts you can buy with your cigarette money. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

To Be Retired, thanks so much for those encouraging words. I will let you know how it goes (after a while). Years ago I was afraid to fly. I had flown but then went through a stage I just couldn't. Then, after my divorce, while all my children were still home, I got a job that paid much better and had to take it, as a single mom, but it ws going to involve some travel. I went to Borders and got a book called 'White Knuckle Flying." I did everything the book said and within six months I was able to fly across the Atlantic, to England and I have never hesitated to fly ever since. So anything is possible. (I hope.) Thanks again, To Be Retired.

I have 50 more pages to go with Duma Key and intend to finish it this morning. Then it's on to the next book waiting for me, The Zookeeper's Wife. Has anyone read that ?

Hi, Boogie! This one is on my list, about five down. Have you started it yet? If so, should I move it up to NEXT to read? I've heard a lot about it and wonder if it's as good as it sounds. This type of story really touches me so I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Started The Zookeeper's Wife, but have only read about 1/3 of the book and it's due at the library tomorrow. Since I cannot renew it (long waiting list), I may get back on the list for it(or not). It hasn't gripped me.

I've started back with Don Quixote. Really witty and fun. Better when I don't have to read it for a class assignment, LOL.

As I said in a post on Scent of the Day -- I hit the jackpot today. A candle/tart order arrived and with it, a music CD I had on order for quite a while (my other passion is music) and my oldest daughter in Connecticut had 3 books sent to me from Amazon: one hard cover True Crime called "Never Enough" by Joe McGinniss; a large paperback,
"The Best American Crime Reporting - 2007" compilation, Linda Fairstein, Editor; and "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. My doctor is emphatic that I have to stop smoking, after this bout of pneumonia (as if I didn't know myself) and this book is supposed to have miraculous results on his "Easyway" (non-guilt) method, according to my cousin for whom it is working -- so please, if you think of it, light a Blue for me for a few hours when you've time (as I just did) that it can work for me, guys.
I will update bye and bye on how the books were for you True Crime lovers on the Forum, like me.

You CAN do it! I have quit twice and quickly learned that I could not only be a social smoker. It'll be three years this May that we quit the second time. Both times were cold turkey. I won't lie, it was tough. However, we did it over a weekend so we basically slept the first couple of days away. It helped.

My Mom also quit over a year ago. It took her a year of trying after being diagnosed with emphysema and COPD before she did. My Dad also quit over 5 years ago and he smoked 4-5 packs per day for over 30 years. I have always felt if he could do it, anyone can.

Keep us posted and know that you have your very own cheering team here!

Best of luck to you Patsy - you can do it!! I quit smoking 13 years ago right before I got pregnant for the first time. I never went back to it, because I knew if I did I would never be able to quit again. I couldn't face cold turkey so I tapered off over a period of weeks -I know this method doesn't work for every one but it did for me. But whatever works for you, know that we're rooting for ya!

Send, I checked the reader reviews for The Zookeeper's Wife on Amazon.com this morning. Many reviewers feel the same way I do: the story itself is interesting but the author went about writing it in the wrong way. Too much going off of the subject and digressing for pages and pages on trivial things not central to the storyline. I won't get back on the list for this one. If you want to read a good novel about WW11, check out The Book Thief. It was one of the finest stories I have ever read. The book was actually narrated by Death.

Note to Griselda - you are right! The Harry Potter, books on CD, are fabulous! Taking me to and from work for several days - and I look forward to the drive!

Sorry, Boogie, I don't know how I missed this! Thanks for the update on The Zookeeper's Wife. I think I'll take your advice and move it far down the list of the "must reads", especially with such a wonderful recommendation for The Book Thief - it sounds like it's right up my alley! I love unique perspectives and WWII holds a special interest for me, so I will be getting this right away. Thank you!!!!

I am almost finished reading Velocity by Dean Koontz. It's a fast -paced thriller, and I am enjoying it very much.

Bartender gets two notes. One says that if you don't take this note to the police, I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher. If you do go to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman.

This bartender is then drawn into the killer's sick choices, while the killer plants evidence on the bodies that the bartender is the killer. To keep from being fingered by the police, the bartender then has to go around and get rid of the bodies. :?

I read Velocity a while back. I liked it but found it to be a bit predictable then weird.

Before candles and tarts, books were my addiction. They still are, just not as much as before. Right now I am reading Janet Evanovich Two for the Dough, the second in her Stephanie Plum series. I am really liking them! Before those I was reading her Full series. Those are hilarious!

Whooo Hoooo! I'm so glad you're enjoying the Harry Potter CDs. Jim Dale is a phenomenal actor - I wish there were more of his readings available.

I'm finishing Book 7 (again) and then I'm on to Stephen King's Duma Key which I bought based on everyone's recommendation. Looking forward to that.

I recently watched a movie about Truman Capote called 'Infamous' which piqued my interest in the author. So I picked up 'In Cold Blood' . I'm about half-way through it and it is absolutely mesmerizing and chilling, even still.

I read that about a year ago - for the 3rd time! Then I got the old movie with Robert Blake, I think it was... You are right, the book is the granddaddy of true-crime books, and it will make you turn on lights and check closets after reading it.
