I melt them until I can't smell them anymore. I'm on a very tight budget, so I can't afford to be "wasteful". Most of the tarts I have last for 2 tealights before they poop out, and I still feel guilty about dumping them then. The few tarts I've tried that last 3-4 tealights make me so excited! I know I dump mine too soon, Jersey, so I guess it is quite wasteful. I just think I'll never get to my others if I don't.
I've let a few go quite some time, if it was particularly strong or good. But that's generally the exception with me.

Usually after 6 hours I am ready for something different. I do two shifts of tarts starting at 7AM til I go to bed around midnight. Some i have let go 10+ hours if really good [smilie=Pattys_day]

I couldn't agree more. If they do not last more than a couple of tealights than I won't buy from that company again. There are some companies that last for hours and they get my business. I am in the process of trying new brands now to compare. I often like to toss a bunch of left over hodge podge together to experiment.

I am bad about keeping them...if they are still scenting I leave them in a melter and let them harden "for later" and try another melter with something else. Eventually I end up with all my melters full and I have to have a "burnout day" when I eek out the last scent from the leftovers.

[smilie=Pattys_day] Goofier yet - if I am not sure if the scent is gone, I move them into my tiny bathroom and close the door. If no pop of scent when I open the door later, out they finally go.

If I love the scent it stays on for awhile. If I do not like a scent, I tend to dump pretty quickly. As I melt more, I am narrowing my preferences, so hopefully I will not be dumping as much. I probably end up with 2 scents a day in each melter, unless it is one of those days where I can't find a scent... then lots of tarts are melted... [smilie=Pattys_day]

Like some of the others I am on a tight budget so I too eek out every last drop of scent. I expect to get at least one full day from a tart and if not than I mark it as a No in my rebuy column. If I absolutely can't stand the scnet I will dump it.

I usually melt until I can't detect any more scent, but if I dislike something, I dump it right away. I can't stand to smell something that I don't like. Might be why I try to control myself when ordering. I know that my nose can be very picky about scents and I try to stay with things that really sound like they are "my cup of tea".

Sometimes I do,sometimes I don't. I get lazy sometimes about dumping and leave them alone, but I don't ever stress if I feel like dumping a tart. I used to save them if I felt like they had any scent left, but after seeing all of those patties lying in the basket-knowing I'd probably never get around to a relight-I quit.

I start at 4:30 AM with a tart upstairs and one down and usually change them out around 3-4PM for two others and let those go all night. Usually I can still smell them if they are in my electric burners which they usually are. I used to start at 7 AM and shut them off around 8-9 PM and start fresh in the morning but now I like to have something on all night. I usually get 12-16 hrs from a tart in my electric burners so I guess I am dumping them before I have to but I figure it is my one indulgence so why not? Now that I have a good tealight burner I have also been doing one in the downstairs bath and try to get two tealights out of them but the scent does seem to burn off a lot quicker.

I use tealights in my melters and I don't like to blow out the tealight. They seem to burn longer when they are undisturbed.

so, I tend to leave the melt in there untill the tealight burns out on it's own. Whether the melt is still putting out a scent or not.

Generally I switch it out after one tealight, sometimes two. Mostly because I have many new scents to try. (I'm still trying out new e tailers) [smilie=th_gagme]

I agree Jule - once I blow out a tealight it seems to be a goner - it often won't even relight. I have tried to very carefully lift them out and transfer them to new melters - but that is always a gamble. Often it is just an opportunity to practice my wax-cleaning skills! [smilie=th_a194]

It depends on the etailer. If it's a particularly strong one, that I really enjoy, I'll keep it going until I can't smell it. Then I'll put it a special jar for the hubby to make "candleshop" tarts for me, which, after practice, can smell really good. But, oh, man, have I made some boo-boos in that department!!! Finally, the wax is used to make firestarter tarts.

Gotta know how to make those pennies squeal, ya know!!!!

I'm really particular about getting all the scent out of my tarts. I only burn about two a day...sometimes three.

Like Dabba, I usually only go through two tarts a day, sometimes three if I am home all day. My rule of thumb is two tealights for a tart or at least eight hours in the electric burner. Of course, if I really dislike a scent (which is rare), I will get rid of it at once. But, I'm not a tart hoarder. In fact, usually I feel I don't have enough, though I've only run out once. I can't let that happen again!

That sounds about right to me, too - if I can't get a couple tealights out of a tart I am disappointed. If I really love the scent I try to get waaay more!

I never have dumped out a tart so far. I pretty much only buy what I know I will like.

Except for that Juicy Watermelon from YC I though it was terrible so I only used one t light, and then got rid of it!

Never bothers me to dump a tart. I burn them for one reason and that is to produce scent. I will give a tart up to an hour....if it isn't totally permeating at least my large room....out it goes. As soon as it weakens...out it goes.

The only time I do not use this standard is when i am testing for etailers...then there are specific quidelines I am looking for and realize I am testing for all types of noses.
