Do you like to have your melter match the decor of the room you use it in? When you purchase a new melter do you take into consideration what room you'll be using it in and buy accordingly? Or do you just buy a neutral color? Or whatever you happen to like whether it matches anything in your home or not? I like my melters to match or co-ordinate as I consider them to be part of my decor the same as a lamp or picture frame or throw pillow would be. I was just curious what everyone else does.

My melters all have to match the decor of the room. It is a permanent fixture! :-)

I'd like to add a question to yours if you dont mind MPF. How do you keep the heat from messing up what its sitting on? True, I havent got any of the electric fancy melters, so dont know if the bottoms get hot, but the plates get flaming hot! I've made a bad boo-boo on a beautiful piece of furniture. grrr

Thats why I cant answer the matching ???, I just have the warming plates and I use old candle jars for the melts. Do any of you put a special thingy under the warmers? I have pot holders, but the heat has gone through 3 stacked, plus it looks ugly. Dont the electric ones get to hot to sit on furniture? What do you set them on? TIA

Lots of good questions!

I have a couple "nice" melters that always stay put - they are electric/bulb. They were chosen to fit the decor.

However, I have many other tea light melters that I may place in different spots, depending on the air currents of the season. Those are random - not really designed for matching just scenting.

As for protecting underneath - I often use the tile samples that I got when I remodeled the house - I bought a few to bring home to check the colors and they work well to shield the counter/tables from heat. One issue they also help with - if I use the larger ones - once in awhile the wax pops and the spatters land on the tile.

Breelee, I use Scentsy trivets under most of my warmers. They have little feet on them so the melter isn't in direct contact with the surface it's sitting on and it allows circulation under the warmer. I only started using the trivets about a year ago. Up until then, I didn't have anything under my melters. The bottoms do get hot, but not so hot I can't touch them and I've never had them damage anything. I think you can pick up trivets in the household section at places like Wal-Mart and Target. The tiles Debra uses are a good idea, too.

Breelee - If you have your plate sitting on three potholders and it still scars your furniture, do you think the plates might be too hot? I use the two piece 24 watt melters. I use to try to match everything but in my house the 24 watt melters seem to be the only ones that work so I have gone from matching decor to having my rooms smelling nice. They aren't ugly looking - just plain black or whatever color dominates the room. There are some really pretty ones out there but the wattage is lower. It just depends on your house and what type of wax you prefer. It's a whole new learning experience, albeit a fun one.

I also like the idea of the tiles. Will have to check them out. I went to Walmart and bought the clear plates that you put candles on. They come in different sizes and have small feet on the bottom to allow air to circulate between the plate and the countertop or furniture.

Thanks everyone. I DO think the plates get to hot. I was only using 1 potholder when I had the boo-boo, now use 3. After reading all your posts, I'm getting the 24 watt melters. I have looked for them in stores, but couldnt find any. Did everyone have to order on-line? You guys are awesome!

I've converted most of my melters to Scentsy now and I always purchase to match the decor. I use tile coasters with cork backings to sit underneath most of the melters - they are simple, monogram coasters that do not really detract from the melters themselves.

I try to match the decor as much as possible, not always perfect but at least in a somewhat matching color. I keep color in mind when gifting warmers as well.

So far I only have 24 watt electric plate warmers. I have had no heat damage from using them so far. I've bought them at Almost Country for their good selection and prices. I hope they restock more soon, I did empty out a decent amount of their stock
