McCall's fans! Help me with scents, please?? ...or stop me from ordering everything!

I am certain living in a major metro there are McCall's dealers around me and I should go sniff and buy or sniff and order if they do not carry the bars but I do know know how fresh their stock is, if they carry bars, etc. I know that I can come here to the experts!

I like apples, cinnamons, lemons, vanilla and laundry scents, generally.

I have Country Store, Farmer's Market/Spiced Pumpkin and Apple Spice.

So, I planned to get Mulled Cider, Lemon Loaf, Either Vanilla or Haley's Frosting, Royal Ginger, Mulberry and perhaps more.

Which scents of theirs would you recommend (or tell me to pass on)?

Thanks!!

Karen,
I have not tried McCall's yet, but I wanted to ask...I noticed their bars are 7.95. How many separate "melts" is this? I know Bathing Garden is strong enough for one cube, so a 6-cube clamshell for $3 is a great deal...that's 6 separate melts! How does McCall's compare in value?

Each McCall's candle bar is 5.5 oz. and contains 6 small rectangular bars. A regular clamshell will typically hold up to 3 oz. of wax.

I would have to be home to measure but I would say that each small bar would be 2-ish regular sized clamshell square cubes.

I can tell you this. I started these at 6 p.m. last night and I hated to turn them off to leave for work at 8 a.m. because they were still going strong!

I have not received my Bathing Garden order yet so I cannot compare. I think my order comes tomorrow or Friday.

These are the strongest, most long lasting melts I have had thus far.

My picks are Mulled Cider, Sunrise Cinnamon Buns (FAB!!), Autumn Leaves, Cozy Cabin, Pumpkin Spice, Country Store. There are many I have not tried, but I've heard good reviews of Laura's Lemon Loaf & State Fair. At Halloween, I love Witches Brew and Trick or Treat. Poinsettia is fantastic for the holidays.

Okay.

I have:
  • Farmer's Market (which is also called/packaged as Pumpkin Spice)
  • Country Store
  • Apple Spice

I just ordered:
  • Spiced Pear (which is also called/packaged as Country Christmas)
  • Royal Ginger
  • Sunrise Cinnamon Buns
  • Mulled Apple Cider
  • Haley's Butter Frosting
  • Mulberry

Guess the reason it came in a day is that even though they are in CA, they have a distribution center in my state (MO) just a few hours away from me. Of course, that also means that ordering online I pay tax and shipping.

This name confuses me. Is McCall's sold in stores like BH&G? Do they just sell candles and melts? I'm having a brain toot, but thought McCall's sold clothes. lol

Great Choices Karen...I used to go to a craft barn near the beach to sniff and buy McCalls and there was only one scent that I couldn't stand...I think it is called Orange Almond Biscotti. I think I have really loved almost all the rest. If you love apples, you would love State Fair...yum! One thing I noticed with McCalls....you can't really get a good cold sniff...once lit the full fragrance really blossoms!!! Enjoy you new waxies! :)
breelee...I have only found them at craft stores, florists and online. I think they sell chocolates but no clothes...loll.

Surprisingly, Bass Pro stores carries McCall's. I found that through their website.
I called Bass Pro and they knew nothing of the candle bars.

I agree that the scent is there but nothing like when warmed. Perhaps it is better that I just ordered by description and the advice here!

I passed on State Fair only because I do not care for caramel scents (I know, you are all saying, "WHAT?") and it appeared to be caramel apple.

I like baked apple, cinnamon/apple pie but not McIntosh type apple scents.

I really think that I am the pickiest melter EVER. I do.

I don't like caramel apple either...this one smells more like a homemade apple pie to me. :) I will probably be ordering some button tarts from tartburners.com soon....I can send you some when I do if you'd like. ;)

Looks like they have a lot of interesting scents - Crushed Velvet really caught my eye.

Thanks!!!

I called to see if I could add State Fair to my order. Silly me, I saw 20% off with a $200 order but I did not see free shipping with $50 purchase (Again, they need to rearrange their site for consumers). I was just one bar away from free shipping. They checked and my order has already shipped. Lesson learned.

She was so kind that she is sending a piece of State Fair and of Lemon Loaf and sending them to me separate from my other order.

I will do a review of all the scents I will have once I try them all.

Breelee - do U sew? I haven't looked lately, but McCalls was a company that used to make a huge assortment of clothes patterns - maybe that's what you're thinking of...? [smilie=th_pardon]

I'm off to check out this vendor. You girls have me all excited! [smilie=th_smiley_emoticons_hurr

Thanks for the tartburners.com link, Maggie. Looks like the way I am going to go for sure! Only thing is...do they really not label their button tarts?

Yep...the rotten thing with buying the button melts is you have no way of really telling the scents apart except sniffing. Tartburners sends them in a plastic bag...kind of like YC has. They are not wrapped as singles or anything. I would be happy to send you some when I order...they emailed me that State Fair will be in this week. Horray!

Thanks, Maggie, for offering to do that. I did also notice that the State Fair was OOS and that one is first on my list. I've got my cart filled with a few...Country Store, Haley's Butter Frosting, Laura's Lemon Loaf, State Fair, Wilson's Shortbread, and Sunrise Cinnamon Buns. Ya know how much I love me some bakery! [smilie=th_200912104451] I'll let you know if I don't order, okay? If I do order, though, and get some maybe you haven't tried, I'd be happy to send you some samples, too!

Thanks Honeybear!! I'll let ya know when I order...I'm gonna keep checking the site and hopefully he'll email when they arrive. He said they post new shipments on FB. I have lots of McCalls candles as well...so when I finish them up, I fill it with the button melts like this:
