First impression of Zesty Lemon Peppercorn:
Zesty Lemon Peppercorn smelled pretty good when I first popped off the lid at my local Walmart. It wasn’t your average lemon scent which I liked. If you’ve read any of my reviews, you know I love lemon fragrances. They are my #1 favorite – in all variations – and this fragrance really intrigued me. I couldn’t find a scent description for it so I’ll do my best to describe it for you.
First impression… I could clearly smell the lemon and also something else. Not really peppercorn but something perfume’y. It was nice but not what I was expecting. When I think of “peppercorn,” I think of something spicy because in general, all fragrances I’ve tried in the past with peppercorn in it were spicy. With this scent, the pepper notes were nonexistent but hoping that part comes to life once the candle was burning.
Time to find out!
Full disclosure, Better Homes and Gardens candles are generally lightly scented for me so I always stick to small rooms to start out. I think that’s the biggest mistake many tend to make with this brand. Because it’s a big candle, it’s assumed it should fragrance a large room. Not so.
I lit this candle in a small powder room where it stayed from beginning to end. The aroma… very interesting and will be hard to describe. The fragrance stayed consistent… a fresh lemon with perfume notes dominating the background. That’s the best description I can think of. I never really detected peppercorn, which would have been nice but overall, the aroma smelled like fresh lemons mixed with a musky perfume. It was sophisticated and very different.
Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 7 in a small room. 5 or less in a medium room. This fragrance (in my opinion) is definitely better suited to burn in a small room.
This candle burned very slow and took hours to reach a full melt pool with each lighting – which is pretty normal with this brand. No wick issues. Clean burning from beginning to end.
Closing to my review:
Zesty Lemon Peppercorn was an interesting fragrance. I would even go so far to call is a sophisticated lemon with the added musk notes in the background. Definitely not your average lemon scent and one you really need to experience yourself to see what I mean. Would I purchase it again? Probably not. I guess it boils down to the musk notes… I didn’t really care for that.
Check out this scent next time you see it at Walmart and let me know what you think. I just recently purchased this at my local store but I know it’s a seasonal scent so if you don’t see it, give it a little more time and try back later spring, early summer.
Happy candle hunting!
