Introduction to my review:
I’m not sure what this new theme of candles from Bath & Body Works is called but they are beyond gorgeous! They’re also priced higher from Bath & Body Works standard line at $30.00 a candle. I only bought a few to review since they‘re on the pricier side but after holding and smelling these candles, I‘m really impressed. They are so beautiful and the fragrances smell so exotic!
First up…. Sparkling Amber. This candle is pure elegance and sophistication!! I almost didn’t want to burn it. Almost…
What a lovely and elegant candle this is. It reminded me of a beautiful Indian Sari. The glass was a gorgeous burnt orange color with a gold filigree pattern all around the candle. The wax color matched the glass and was a beautiful burnt orange. The lid matched the theme as well… it was gold/bronze with an intricate patterned embossed into the lid. The overall appearance of the candle was so elegant and pretty.
What did my candle smell like?
First sniff… sensual is the first word that comes to mind. I couldn’t help but tie the fragrance with the appearance of the candle… it reminded me of a beautiful Indian bride on her wedding day. Delicate and breathtakingly beautiful. The fragrance… strong – very elegant and sultry… like a hypnotic and expensive perfume. Here is the scent description from the bottom of the candle:
“Velvety Peach and lush frangipani petals add a touch of lightness to a warm and alluring amber.”
Reading that and then smelling the wax cold… this scent (to me) was all sensual amber… I really wasn’t smelling peach but I’m sure it was in the mix somewhere. I looked up “Frangipani” and all the info I could find said “tropical plumeria” which is a sweeter floral so I can totally see that blended in this beautiful fragrance. It does have a sweet quality to it. Just based off cold sniff… I already loved it.
Time to light my candle!! Picking the right size room can be a challenge sometimes but Bath & Body Works candles have always been room fillers for me so in my master bedroom it went! It’s a really big room and oh my goodness, it was PERFECT!! At first, I thought this candle was lightly scented… I could smell the aroma but it was subtle. Once it burned for an hour or two, that’s all you could smell in any part of my house. The fragrance not only completely saturated my bedroom, it filled the entire upper level of my home and drowned out every other scent I had going. It was soooooo strong but amazingly, it wasn’t so overpowering that it was hard to handle (for me anyway.) The fragrance itself… pure elegance! It had so many qualities to it… it was sophisticated, sensual, sultry, romantic… it smelled like an exotic and sweet amber. I loved it!!
I even had some family members comment on the fragrance. My husband… he didn’t like it. His analysis… he thought it smelled like cheap old lady perfume and it was too strong. His exact words. BAH!! (what does he know?) My daughter chimed in too… she said it gave her a headache and was too strong as well and actually asked me to put it out. When I asked her what she thought it smelled like, she simply said a strong perfume.
Final thoughts… I loved this fragrance and found it to be the complete opposite of what my two negative Nancy’s thought. The fragrance does have perfume qualities to it but I still loved it and I’m not a big fan of burning perfume fragrances. To me, this scent was more exotic and seductive and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. I never did catch whiffs of peach but that’s okay… the overall scent was captivating enough to keep me coming back for more. I highly recommend this candle if you love sultry and romantic type fragrances… you won’t be disappointed.
The start of this candle was perfect… no wick issues, clean and even burn. About half way down, all three wicks started sputtering and fizzling out. Classic wick issues BBW candles have been known for in the past. This caused some tunneling. Eventually, the wicks totally burnt out so I couldn’t finish burning the candle. Total major bummer….
Closing to my review:
This candle would have received a perfect 5 star rating had it burned better. That was a huge disappointment and I’m hoping this was an isolated incident. I’ll find out because I’ve already purchased a new one that‘s on the way. These 2 for $22 plus an added 25% off sales are killing me… they are so hard to resist. 🙂
And (cough) with their monthly sales going on to tempt you, you may want to take a peekie… if you’re looking for a wonderful, exotic and romantic fragrance to burn and you want saturation strong, you MUST try Sparkling Amber… it’s quite amazing.
Happy candle hunting!
