What did my candle smell like?
Bow Ties & Bourbon was too cute with its whimsical floral patterned label and royal blue wax. Sounds silly but that’s one of my favorite parts to Bath & Body Works candles… they’re always changing their labels to keep things fresh. I love it!
Bow Ties & Bourbon sounded right up my alley simply because it’s a masculine scent and those happen to be one of my favorite types. I don’t know why… maybe because they’re so fresh and unisex. My hubby loves them too.
Here is the scent description from the bottom of the candle:
Be transported to relaxing on a springtime porch with a blend of dark oak, fresh bergamot and a hint of bourbon.
First impression… I smelled bergamot and dark oak the most but it almost smelled perfumy more than masculine. Interesting. I also wasn’t detecting any bourbon notes but maybe that will come to life once the candle is burning.
Time to find out!
I lit this candle in my master bedroom and came back 30 minutes later to a fresh masculine scent. I was thankful the perfumy notes went away since I wasn’t crazy about that when I first smelled it. The overall scent… a fresh scent of bergamot and oak. It was nice but keeping it real… I wasn’t super “wowed” by it if that makes any sense.
Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle an 8. Not super strong but gave a nice and steady medium scent throw.
My candle burned perfect. No wick issues, thank goodness. My candle burned clean and even from start to finish.
Closing to my review:
This was a nice masculine fragrance but not sure I liked it enough to purchase it again. Has that ever happened to you? You purchase a candle, it performs great but the scent didn’t really amaze you enough to purchase it again? That’s kind of how I felt about this fragrance. It was just “okay” for me.
Don’t let my personal preference stop you though should you walk into a Bath & Body Works store and run across this candle. If you love masculine scents, definitely smell it… you may walk away with one.
Happy candle hunting!
Burn Performance: 5/5
Overall Rating: 4/5
Even though I wasn’t super “wowed” by this scent, the candle still rates high since it met all the criteria we look for when reviewing. Presentation was excellent, it burned great and gave a nice and steady scent throw.

I love the label on this candle and it drew me in. I really liked the scent on cold sniff. I wasn't sure what to expect. I still like it now that i have it burning but I don't know if I would repurchase it.

I happen to love Bowties & Bourbon with it's woodsy masculine smell and powdery undertones.
Bowties & Bourbon seems to be one of those candles that people love it or leave it.
The 2016 batch tends to be much weaker in throw compared to the 2015 batch. I have also noted that the candle wax is not filled to the top as it was last year.
The burn time on this candle is about thirty hours if burned and trimmed properly.
Enjoy your candle burning!

I have had bow ties & Bourbon also and I agree, the scent was ok and my candle burned flawlessly but I also was not wowed by the scent.
