First impression of Mulled Wine from Bijou:
Mulled Wine from Bijou was the second fragrance I received from their L’Hiver line. I had no idea what to expect with this scent but based off my past experiences with this company, I had a feeling I was going to like it.
Before I delve into the fragrance itself, let me first tell you how adorable these little petite candles are. The vessels are identical to the larger 8oz size only much smaller at 1.2 ounces which is about the size of a votive. See picture above for visual reference. Aren’t they pretty?
Also would like to mention, once you’ve purchased a petite and have the vessel, you can then purchase the 2 pack refills after that for much less. They come individually wrapped and in a beautiful little decorate box which makes a perfect gift for any candle lover out there.
Okay, onto the fragrance…
Here is the scent description for Mulled Wine:
Tangy mandarin orange is spiced with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, anise and just a hint of musk. Keep it in the dining room as you prepare Thanksgiving supper.
That sounds pretty complex. I always like comparing what I actually smell against the scent description and this one truly confused me. Smelling the wax before lighting it, it smelled like perfume more than anything else so I think it’s safe to say my nose detected the musk and cinnamon components the most. But, the true test comes once the candle is burning.
Time to find out!
Because this candle was so small, I stuck to a really small powder room to burn it in. Once lit, a full melt pool didn’t take long and from then on out… the aroma of musk, cinnamon and hints of orange filled my bathroom. This was an interesting scent and not your average holiday fragrance. It had a little bit of everything… fruity, spicy cinnamon and all intertwined on a bed of sultry musk. I didn’t really detect anise or nutmeg but enough was going on with this fragrance that I was okay with that.
Strength – because these candles were so tiny, they were lightly scented. I would rate this fragrance a 4 in a small room. Not super strong but it did give a nice and subtle scent throw.
This candle burned great, fast but great. Once I lit the wick, it reached a full melt pool within minutes and from then on out, it burned pretty fast. I would say I got a half a day of burning this little candle.
Closing to my review:
I enjoyed Mulled Wine but I think next time I’ll stick to the larger 8oz size. These little petite candles are adorable but they were a little too tiny for me. If you love burning votives though, this is definitely a brand worth checking out. The petites are a votive size but much prettier.
This concludes my holiday reviews from Bijou, an elegant luxury brand I am fast becoming addicted to.
Happy candle hunting!
