Introduction to my Valentine’s Day Scented Melt Review:
Right smack in the middle of the Wintertime blahs, along comes Valentine’s Day to perk us all up. You know?… here comes Cupid to shoot us all in the rear and remind us that spring is just around the corner. It’s a time for lovers and sweethearts, secret crushes and dear friends. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I wanted to share the love… the love of scent that is. There are so many new scent possibilities for Valentine’s Day, and I am ready to fill my home with all of them. When I think of Valentine’s Day, I think about extra kisses from my sweetie, and the little conversation hearts candies… fancy chocolates in heart shaped boxes, and of course dozens of deep red roses. Now that I have a family, our Valentine’s Days are less about strawberries and champagne in bed, and more about bear hugs with children’s sticky faced kisses, but this is the progression of love and I wouldn’t change a thing. I am feeling the magic of the holiday for sure. But not everyone shares my enthusiasm for Valentine’s Day. It’s been brought to my attention that there is a whole undercurrent of anti-Valentine’s Day Cupid haters… and you know who you are. What would St. Valentine say about such dissent (or Hallmark for that matter)?
To some degree, I can relate to shooting daggers instead of love arrows. Before I met my dear husband, I certainly had occasion to want to break Cupid’s arrow right over his cherubic noggin.
One year I found a cute teddy bear left in my car on Valentine’s Day and I was so thrilled with the idea of having a secret admirer, until I found out later that it was my own sweet Mother who had left it for me. Nice, to be sure… but not the handsome stranger I had imagined. And… yup… I’ve even been dumped on this traditional day of love… by phone no less! So I can definitely relate to the Valentine’s Day bashers.
You either love it or you hate it… or you love to hate it. Whatever your view of this sugary sweet, pink and red day, there is a scent out there to fit your mood.
I’ve looked high and low to find some unusual, some traditional, and even some anti-Valentine’s scents to brighten your holiday…and I’ve found tons of them! Here are some of my absolute favorite picks from some of my absolute favorite places for Valentine’s Day this year.
What did my Valentine’s Day melts look like?
All of the Valentine’s Day scents in this review are in melt form. Some companies do offer their scents in candles, so be sure to check the individual websites if you’re interested in a little candlelight. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)The Spotted Hog’s Valentine’s selections are offered in cute paper candy cups drizzled to look like yummy sweets and LOL’s Kiss My Cupcake tart cup was decked out in pink and white with a tiny red wax heart on top. Please see pictures within my review for visual reference.
How did my Valentine’s Day scented melts smell?
I have so many great scents to share that I’ve listed them out by company.
The Spotted Hog Candle Company
The Spotted Hog Candle Co. are well known for having “to-die-for” bakery scents, so what better place to go looking for love than here. Wouldn’t you know it?… Score! Here are just a few of their many great bakery scents to tease your senses.
Cupid’s Raspberry Drizzle
“Rich, creamy chocolate is blended with notes of sweet raspberry to create this delectable treat!”
The name alone of this scent made me want to have it and the description just sealed the deal.
All of the Valentine’s Day scented melts from The Spotted Hog are specially presented in adorable little paper candy cups and are drizzled with wax to look like yummy candies. I had to tell my youngest son that these were not for eating… they looked that good.
This scent is a good blend of chocolate and raspberry… man those two scents are a match made in heaven. They’re the perfect couple. This scent was a bit lighter than the others from The Spotted Hog but yummy and no less deserving of a spot on my favorites list.
This is described as:
“A recipe that was handed down through the generations. Sweet homemade vanilla fudge laced with walnuts and pecans.”
Divinity Fudge has long been one of my favorites from The Spotted Hog, so I was so happy to find that it is all dressed up for Valentine’s Day as Cupid’s Confections. It smells like the real thing. One would swear there was vanilla fudge somewhere nearby. It’s very good, and, for me, it defines what The Spotted Hog is all about. This is a scent that I always include in my orders from The Spotted Hog, and always recommend to anyone new to this company. It is a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day.
Sweethearts is described as:
“A sweet and tart mixture of various berries intertwined with soft notes of cantaloupe, watermelon and honeydew.”
This scent smells just like the sweet tarts candy. It is a sweet fruity confection that was my children’s top pick out of all the melts I’ve had on lately. It’s an uncomplicated, simple fruity scent, that brought to mind elementary school and passing out little Valentine cards to classmates. It made us all feel happy when we smelled it so it’s a winner in my book.
“Candied pecans and pralines, caramelized brown sugar and sweet vanilla. Amazing!”
The above description describes this fantastic scent. It also goes by the name Divine Praline and Pecan. Happy ending, indeed… I saved the best for last. One word… Caramel! Not just any caramel… but the best caramel smell I’ve ever encountered, bar none! Buttery, nutty, can’t get enough, caramel… I could swear there were caramel chews melting in a pot, right next to a pan of roasted pecans. I don’t usually get food cravings from the scents I melt, but wow… this one was making me want caramel candies like crazy! I recommend having some candies on hand if you melt this one…Seriously.
Country Light Candle Company
I recently did a review of Country Light candles, and I remembered seeing some romantic scents tucked in their scent list, so off I went to find a couple of classic favorites for February. It’s always a pleasure to shop at Country Light. They treat their customers like royalty.
Strawberries & Champagne
“A juicy fruit aroma with sparkling effervescent notes on a warm, sensual background. A Victoria’s Secret duplicate.”
I have not experienced the Victoria’s Secret original scent so I can’t say if it is an exact duplication or not, but to me it smelled like a tart, sparkling wine.
This is not a sweet strawberry. It’s got a nice champagne sparkle to it, with a bite like a very dry wine. This is different from my usual go-to scents, and it was very interesting. It had a medium to strong scent throw that filled my main room easily.
This scent has an interesting description. It is:
“A soft, sensual aroma featuring Lily of the Valley, Vanilla, Sandalwood and Light Musk.”
Soft and sensual are the first two words that came to mind with this scent even before re-reading Country Light’s own scent description. I had to laugh when I saw they had used the exact same two words as I did. So, I would have to say, it’s definitely true to its description.
Even though it has “sheets” in the title, it is not like a laundry type of scent at all. This is such a relaxing, and calming aroma. It would be perfect for an afternoon nap… um… for two.
Laughing out Loud Candles
Laughing Out Loud a.k.a. LOL has long been a dependable source for great scented tarts, candles, and even bath & body products. I always know when an order arrives from LOL… I can practically smell the box all the way from the mail truck. Here are just a few of their many delightful scents.
Frosted Cupid Cookies
I adore sweet cherry scents, so this one was easy to love. It is described as:
“Sweet sugar cookies iced with cherry almond icing and sprinkled with powdered sugar.”
I once vehemently argued that Amaretto is a cherry flavor. Much to my surprise (and dismay since I lost a bet on it) it’s actually an almond liquor. This melt scent has a touch of that cherry/almond quality I associate with Amaretto, but it’s mostly a sweet sugar cookie scent. The cherry and almond notes stay in the background of this tasty smelling cookie melt. I really like this one… it’s such a fun, flirty scent.
Kiss My Cupcake
This is a scrumptious description from LOL:
“A two layered double scented sassy tart, with a little bit of sugary spice thrown in and topped off with a heart shaped kiss. Vanilla and creamy cakiness cap this off quite nicely.”
Don’t you just love surprises? I have to show you a picture of this melt. It’s pink with a thin white layer of wax on top and a tiny red heart in the center. Love is in the air. This melt reminded me of another LOL scent called Hot Noel, with cinnamon and Vanilla Bean Noel, but it’s all fluffed up with a delectable Pink sugar cake. It smells fantastic and filled my main room easily.
Chocolovers *Aquolina type* (BS)
“Delicious, unabashedly sensual and euphoric with essential oil notes of Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Lily of the Valley, Coriander, Hazelnut, Vanilla, grounded in Malt and Musk. Unlike a simple “foody” type scent, this fragrance is light and very erotic.”
Before it became a wax scent, Chocolovers was a very wearable body fragrance. For those of you who are familiar with Aquolina’s Chocolovers you may rest assured that this duplicate is dead on.
This scent is so much more than a simple chocolate scent. It is very complex and way sexy, so hold on to your hat. Be careful where you melt this one because it works like a love potion on anyone within sniffing distance. Plan ahead so Cupid shoots his arrow at the right suitor. Trust me on this one. You don’t want to excite the cable guy.
Cleanse Your Soul
Cleanse Your Soul (CYS) has been quietly making great smelling tarts for a long time now, and I couldn’t list out my favorite Valentine’s Day scents without including a couple of their Vanilla Bean Noel blends, that are wonderful for this holiday.
How Do I Love Thee?
This is the companion scent to… you guessed it… Let Me Count the Ways. It is described as:
“Summer strawberries with Vanilla Bean Noel and Marshmallow”
Since this had a companion scent, I decided to melt them on opposite sides of the same room. They blended perfectly. I adore putting strawberry with vanilla bean noel, and when CYS is doing the mixing, I know I’m in for a treat. This was a sweet, yummy fragrance that filled my home from one end to the other… just fantastic!
Let Me Count the Ways
This scent is Vanilla Bean Noel and Marshmallow. If you like Vanilla Bean Noel, you have simply got to try Cleanse Your Soul’s version of it. It is the most edible smelling, sweet buttery bakery vanilla on the planet! CYS knows how to blend this expertly with a multitude of other fragrances, making each one unique and positively dreamy.
Come Away With Me And Be My Love
These are such romantic scent names. This one is described as:
“Blackberries, Pineapple, Strawberries and Champagne” Oh yeah!
My husband is a fiend for the berry scents, and he loved this one too. The blackberries and strawberries give it a berry, sweet start and the pineapple and champagne finish with some pucker power. This is more complex than I had expected. It’s a beautifully blended fragrance with a huge throw…another all around great scent.
Closing to my Valentine’s Day inspired scented melt review…
A Valentine’s Day without a date is a real kick in the pants, but a Valentine’s Day without scent is… well, it’s just unthinkable. Whatever your circumstances are during this season of love, there will‚ always be a scent for you to fall in love with. Share one with someone you care about, even if his name is Ben & Jerry.
~Happy Valentine’s Day!
