Alpha Candles is a new company to me based in Australia. When I was given the opportunity to review them and took a peek at their web site I was instantly intrigued. They have the usual scents that I have seen at most companies and a few extra. After e-mailing with Ben, the owner (who is very friendly and helpful), we decided on a few that are outside my normal burning habits. I usually burn very sweet and mostly bakery scents, but since we would be posting this in the warmer months I decided to go with spearmint, carnation and the really unique sounding wattle tree. This was going to be a totally new experience for me!

What Do My Candles Look Like?

My candles are all 6 oz tins. The tins seemed a little small to me at first but I realized that I am used to seeing wider, more shallow tins. These tins are narrow and deep. They're all silver (they have gold as an option as well) with simple labels. The wax in Carnation is pink, Spearmint and Wattle Tree are both green.

Carnation:

The description on their site is:

"A rich traditional blend, just like walking through a garden of fresh carnations. Green floral with a citrus top note and fresh ozonic accords with a spicy carnation and rose body resting on a base of soft woods and musk."

I say it smells like...a carnation! This is a very authentic scent. I burned all these candles in my bathrooms because of their small size and this one was so amazing. I love the smell of carnations and this scent is right on the money. It's spicy and sweet, exactly like smelling a fresh carnation blossom. The throw is excellent in this little guy and the strength is perfect. It filled my bathroom nicely with a subtle scent.

Spearmint:

Alpha Candles describes this scent as:

"An energizing mint bouquet with predominant notes of spearmint leaves."

I really liked this one too. It does not smell sweet like a breath mint, it's a very earthy mint scent. I think this one surprised me the most because I was somehow expecting an obnoxiously sweet scent but this was so different. This is a garden scent and I am in love with it! This one also filled the room and didn't blow the doors off. Great throw, perfect strength.

Wattle Tree:

Alpha's site describes their scent Wattle Tree as:

"A complex yellow floral fragrance combination of jasmine, ylang, rose, lilies, and French lavender sweetened with fruity notes of peach and fresh citrus bergamot."

I was very curious about this one because I have never heard of this scent before. I don't know that I've ever come into contact with a wattle tree so I can't say how authentic this fragrance is but I like it. It's a very green smell...fresh and crisp, with a floral hint to it. I simply could not stop smelling the air when this was lit. Wattle Tree was the strongest of the bunch and packed a powerful punch. The room was full of the scent!

How Did My Candles Burn?

My candles all burned well. The wick did need to be trimmed as usual, but there was no smoke or soot and no wax hang up. These liquefied beautifully and as a bonus seem to last pretty long.

Overall Opinion Of My Candles and Alpha Candles:

I really liked these candles and would order them in a second. My only hesitation is the extra shipping charge from Australia to the US. Alpha Candles is definitely worth a try if you are looking for something off the beaten path. It was really fun to try something new.
