I have a soft spot for Yankee.  They were the first "œreal" candle company I tried.  Before the local one closed up shop I would spend hours browsing and sniffing in there.  Even though my candle universe has expanded by leaps and bounds since then, I still buy from them occasionally and there are a few scents in the line I never want to be without.  I usually buy them locally from a reseller in my town and I still spend a good portion of time browsing and sniffing!  There's something that's so fun about sniffing before you buy.  I do browse the web site too though.

I decided to jump into the Spring fever that has gripped me lately and pick up some florals I hadn't tried before, Lily Of The Valley and White Lilac.

What Do My Tarts from Yankee Candle Look Like?

These are your standard scalloped wax tarts.  Lily Of The Valley is white and White Lilac is a beautiful pale lilac.  (shown to the left)

How Do My Tarts from Yankee Candle Smell?

Keep in mind that tarts can be a little stronger than jar candles. Usually the pool of melted wax is larger and closer to the surface than in containers, and some retailers use more fragrance in their tarts because there is no direct flame on the wax.

Lily Of The Valley:

The official scent description from Yankee is:

An exquisite breath of spring captured in the sweet perfume of delicate Lily of the Valley blossoms. 

On first sniff I thought this would be super strong, but I had to buy it.  I love flowers, and have a "thing" for fragrant, white flowers like lily of the valley and paper whites.  I happily fired up my burner in my room and began melting away.  Strangely enough it wasn't too strong.  I would say this was a medium plus scent.  It's a great thrower, it traveled down my hallway and had a light scent even in the living room.  This smells just like true lily of the valley to me.  It doesn't smell like some other lily of the valley fragrances, just true to the flower.  This is a keeper.

Lilac is one of my favorite flowers.  I love the scent and it's just so charming to look at.  I can't seem to grow it though which frustrates me so much!  I am reduced to buying it from the florist and I was excited to try this melt for another way to get this fragrance in my home.  The official description of this scent is:

Romantic impressions linger in this sensual scent of soft white lilacs kissed by moonlight!

I couldn't wait to get this one in my burner. This is the perfect Spring scent and it makes me want to give growing these puppies another try.  The fragrance is strong and true and throws well too.  I had a very strong scent throughout the house and could smell it all the way to the back door!  This is a totally true lilac and I love it.  I wouldn't want to melt this in a small room with the door closed though, it's powerful.

Overall Opinion Of My Yankee Tarts:

No matter how many outstanding candle companies I come across, (and there are many!) I will always buy from Yankee.  I guess there's just something nostalgic in it for me, and I can buy them locally for a "quick fix" if I need one.  The tarts are a few cents more than your typical on line store but if you buy locally there is no shipping so I think it evens out in the end. The shipping on the web site is very reasonable too, a flat $5 on orders under $100.

I really liked these scents and will buy them again to melt in Spring and Summer.  If you are looking for some true floral scents, check these out.
