Introduction to my review of a Persimmon Scented Candle from Soular Therapy:
This is my second review of a Soular Therapy/Flare candle. My first experience was with their Mint Mojito fragrance which I really enjoyed. Soular Therapy (I think) are a big luxury candle line and have been featured on Oprah among a ton of very huge magazines, you can visit their website under “press” to read which ones. It’s actually overwhelming to see how many big name magazines they’ve been featured in and tells you, “this is a huge & popular company”! You get on Oprah and dude, you’re in the “big time”. This brand is also very popular with movie stars and many famous musicians. Now some of you reading this might say, “who cares?”… but to others, that’s a hefty endorsement.
A few months after I wrote my first review, a rep from Soular Therapy actually read it and shot me an email to say thanks and offered to send me a few more candles to try. I was excited!! First of all, that this big brand would even bother to acknowledge my review flattered me and then offering to send me some candles flattered me even more. I thought that was pretty cool.
They ended up sending a few more scents in their Flare line and also a candle in their “astrological” candle line. Now THAT is cool!! They make candles specific to your astrological sign. Mine happens to be Sagittarius so that’s the candle I wanted to try. I haven’t burned it yet… that’ll be the next review from this brand. I was in the mood for citrus and zesty this time and decided on trying their Persimmon scent. What’s a persimmon you ask? I asked myself the same thing… I had no idea till I tried this candle.
What does my Flare Persimmon Candle from Soular Therapy Look Like?
These candles are very simply stated. The glass looks like a small cocktail glass and could probably be cleaned and used as one when you’re finished with this candle. There is a silver label on the face of the candle with the company name. This candle came in a nice box that fit the candle stugly… see picture on left for visual reference.
How did my Flare Persimmon Candle from Soular Therapy Smell?
Let’s start off with the scent description for this fragrance:
“This luscious “fruit of the gods” scent shimmers with sweet and sour notes of persimmon nectar and rind of clementine orange for a refreshing fruit and citrus fragrance.”
That description sold me. I love unique fruity scents (especially citrus) and honestly, I’ve never held or smelled a persimmon in my life (I don’t even know how to pronounce it) but I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to try it. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t the slightest clue what the real thing smelled like and frankly I didn’t care… I read “sweet, sour, orange and refreshing”… that sealed the deal.
These are small candles, 7 ounces to be exact and when you look at this candle, it doesn’t look that big. I lit it in my bedroom thinking, “there’s no way this candle will fragrance this entire room” but, I gave it a shot anyway. Boy was I proven wrong. I came back in the room an hour later to a super strong scent that was everywhere and traveling outside my bedroom into my great-room. This candle packs a powerful punch!
Now what exactly was I smelling?… after 4 days straight of burning this candle, I have no idea. This scent was definitely sour, zesty, citrusy and very fresh, I think I could even detect the rind in the Clementine. As for the Persimmon… man, this was a tough one and a very different scent and almost seemed a little “herbally” to me. I decided to read up a little on Persimmons and learned this fruit can take on a bitter taste or have astringent qualities. Reading that and smelling this candle, that makes sense. To me, this fragrance smelled fresh and citrusy but with a noticeable and different twang to it. Even though I couldn’t pinpoint what I was smelling… I liked it and when or if I ever run across a persimmon in my grocery store, I’m buying one and cutting it open just to smell it. It’s a really pretty fruit too… it kind of looks like a cross between a tomato and an orange bell pepper on the outside but when you cut it in half (see picture), it looks like a star inside.
Something interesting to add… whenever my hubby comments on my candles, I always add them to my reviews because he only throws his “two cents” in when he thinks they stink, the scent intrigues him or it’s super different and he wants to know what it is. This was one where he didn’t know what it was and had to ask me. I told him Persimmon and you know what he said? He said it smelled like pot. HA!!!! I couldn’t believe he said that but I can kind of see how he made that connection. It did have a sweet “plant like” smell to it.
Very interesting scent. Definitely worth buying if you’re after a citrus scent that’s unique and fresh.
How did My Flare Persimmon Candle from Soular Therapy burn?
My candle burned great. No soot or smoke and rarely had to trim my wick. Very clean burn with no wax residue left on the glass.
Overall opinion of my Persimmon Candle from Soular Therapy Company:
Soular Therapy is a nice luxury brand and I’m enjoying this company more each time I try one of their candles. As far as price, they are expensive but as far as “luxury” price goes, they’re actually reasonable.
I do like the fact that a lot of their scents are unique which I think sets them apart. Persimmon definitely qualified as unique and one I don’t think I’ve found anywhere else. It’s not your average citrus scent, that’s for sure.
You can purchase this brand from a variety of online retailers and I think even some department stores. One of the online retailers I purchase my luxury candles from is Scents & Sprays.com… they offer a variety and it’s easier for me to buy a few different brands to get their free shipping. Every little bit helps.
Happy candle shopping!
