Indah Lilin is an online store offering hand made luxury soy candles in 9 fragrances. That's not very many scents so browsing this site, I wasn't really sure what to think. I consider these candles expensive ($20. for a 7oz candle) and asked the owner Christine Nelson if she considers her line of candles a "luxury" brand? Her response was yes, they are definitely luxury in quality, craftsmanship and simple elegance.

Indah Lilin's website is very simply stated as well. I liked it and found it very easy to navigate through. I also learned while reading their company bio that "Indah Lilin" means "beautiful candle"in Indonesian which I found clever. My scent choices to review were Dorigilian Tea and Red Currant.

What Do My Indah Lilin Candles Look Like?

My candles were in 7oz tumbler style glass jars and are packaged in a simply stated box that fits each candle snugly. (see photos below) There is the company label on the box but not on the candle itself which is nice. Both were single wicked and pure white so these candles are natural with no dyes or additives.

How Did My Indah Lilin Candles Smell?

Dorigilian Tea:

Dorigilian Tea...how could a name like that not intrigue you? It did me. I have to say I was expecting a tea fragrance simply going off the name, maybe some type of exotic spice or herbal scent. After burning this candle for a few days, I really couldn't detect tea at all. Instead, my nose smelled pure and relaxing aromatherapy. Here is the scent description from Indah Lilin's website:

"He stood at the top of the mountain and looked out over the fjord where a light dusting of snow had just begun to settle. He was tired but exhilarated, the air had never seemed so clean and fresh, the sweet smell of the grass and the scent of wet wood from the forest below attacked his senses, it was beautiful...he was home!

Dorigilian tea is an indefinable fragrance that is as clean and pure as a mountain fjord and as refreshing as a summer's breeze. This unique scent will give you a sense of invigoration, it's like talking a walk on a winter's morning without having to leave your home."

Now that's a description that can send one's imagination going. Reading it though and then smelling this candle was a little confusing to me because the description doesn't really tell you much as far as ingredients. I'm still going by my first impression which is aromatherapy. I've been burning so many fruity and summery scents lately that I found this one quite relaxing and a nice change. I'm having a heck of a time trying to put what this candle smells like into words though. I don't think it smelled like tea and I don't think it smells like the outdoors. It's a soothing and calm scent that I found lovely.

The scent throw on this candle was light to me. I started burning it in my large master bathroom and ended up moving it into a smaller room where the throw was perfect.

Aromatherapy lovers...you would like this one.

Red Currant:

Currant scents are a nice fall/winter fragrance and one I do enjoy burning. When I first sniffed this candle, I was expecting that crispness I usually smell in other currants I've tried in the past but this one was notably different. Here is the scent description:

"Fill your home with the delicious fruity smell of red currants and sample the taste of a European summer anytime of the year. Where you can find red currants cooking in the kitchen to fill scrumptious summer tarts. The wonderful smell of freshly picked berries creates a lovely welcoming atmosphere."

I could smell the currant note loud and clear but there were other elements to this fragrance I found very soothing that I couldn't quite pinpoint. The one part I couldn't smell that I missed was the scent of fir. I think that's the crisp part I've smelled in other brands that makes it such a fun and wintery scent to me.

This candle also gave a light scent throw. I think had I tried burning it in a larger room, the scent would have been lost so keep that in mind if you're interested purchasing this fragrance.

I did like this candle but out of the two I tried, I definitely liked Dorigilian Tea the best.

How Did My Indah Lilin Candles Burn?

Both candles burned clean. No soot or smoke.

Closing Comments:

Luxury candles are fun to try but as I've said before, an expensive habit and not one I know we all can afford. This candle line is expensive... $20.00 for a 7oz candle is an "ouch" to me and probably always will be. But, it is fun to delve into that realm every once in awhile when you can afford it.
