I recently went on a shopping spree on Sensia.com for some aromatherapy candles. They offer a wide selection of brands and are pretty much an aromatherapy one stop shopping website. I'm trying to branch out more into aromatherapy since they're so popular. Carolyn is also a huge fan because of the soothing and therapeutic effects they create so I figure I better get with the program.

The only negative (I think) about aromatherapy candles is that they're usually on the expensive side. The candles I bought weren't cheap by any means and had I not been in the indulging mood, I probably wouldn't have bought them.

Way Out Wax is a brand I had never heard of till browsing through Sensia.com so I definitely wanted to give them a try. I chose a pillar in the fragrance Citrus Harmony. I'm a citrus fan so how could I go wrong with a name like that? Way Out Wax candles are handcrafted from the Green Mountains of Vermont. They use pure essential oils and a blend of beeswax, fully refined high grade paraffin, vegetable waxes and hemp oil in all of their aromatherapy candles. I've never burned beeswax before so I was really looking forward to trying this candle.

My candle was tall and skinny (2" & 4 1/2") pillar. The wax has a natural honey color to it. It doesn't look like any colorants were added.

How Did My Citrus Harmony Pillar Smell?

When I first smelled this candle, it didn't really smell citrusy to me. I smelled some type of herb but nothing I could really pin point exactly. I decided to burn this candle in my powder room because it smelled so light, I had the feeling it was going to burn light too. I was totally right.

After I lit my candle and came back about 30 minutes later, I came back to a complete mess! It was burning so fast, the wax was just oozing down my candle and even overflowed off the stand I had it on onto my counter. Geez, I couldn't believe it! I blew it out, trimmed the wick, cleaned up the mess and relit it. The fragrance in the room by the way was extremely light and still smelled very herbal to me. Here is the scent description on Sensia.coms website:

"Awaken to the glow of sunshine. Stimulating clove and uplifting citrus help to revive a cloudy emotional state. Contains Orange, Grapefruit and Clove."

I don't know, I guess I could smell some citrus but it was really light. The herb I smelled must be the clove. I just wasn't impressed with this scent at all. I know aromatherapy is supposed to be more subtle but this scent was almost non-existent and this was a candle I burned in my tiny powder room. This candle did burn better after I trimmed the wick and after the initial messy fiasco, I made sure it always stayed trimmed. If I didn't, it burned messy again.

I think if I order this brand again, I'll try a travel tin instead of a pillar. I was not impressed at all and was really disappointed with my Citrus Harmony pillar. Aromatherapy is supposed to be soothing, not aggravating.  I felt like I spent more time cleaning up after this candle than I did enjoying the fragrance.  I went on Way Out Wax's actual website and it looks like they offer a lot more in fragrances and sizes than Sensia.com offers. I may go that route next time.

So, in closing, I'm kind of "iffy"on what I think of these skinny little aromatherapy pillars but I have a few more to burn from other brands so we'll see. I'm keeping an open mind and trying to take in the whole "aromatherapy" experience. I'm sure I'll find my favorite somewhere out there.
