Salt City Candles are a fairly big name out there.  I've heard a lot about them so of course, I had to check them out for myself. I ordered my favorites as usual which are basically made up of fruit, fruit and fruit scentsalt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle companys.  I don't know, to me, you can't go wrong with fruit. It's kind of hard to mess one up and I usually tend to be happy with them all.

This company doesn't have a huge selection but plenty for most of us to pick at least a few that sound interesting. Honestly, I always thought these candles were a little overpriced and one of the main reasons I had never bought any. In reality, their prices are actually in-line with mainstream companies out there but still, after trying them, I'm sticking to my original assumption. If I'm being honest, my candles were mediocre, nothing extraordinary and although they weren't bad, I doubt I'll purchase them again. Sorry Salt City.  It's nothing personal, I've just found much better out there for the same if not less price.

What Do My Salt City Candles Look Like?
salt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle companyThe candles are very attractive. They're very simple apothecary jars that almost have an hourglass shape to them. There is a black label that encircles the bottom of the jar that says Salt City Candles. All the candles had one wick. Lemon Tree was yellow, Orange Passion was a light orange and Melon Cream was green.

How Did My Salt City Candles Smell?

Orange Passion:salt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle company

I'm going to start off with the scents description for this scent on Salt City's Website:

"A grove of oranges beckons, its healthy trees loaded with tangy, bright colored fruit. Enjoy a sun-kissed blend of energizing orange juice & sweet cream".

That description sold me, I gotta give them that but I was expecting something totally different that the fragrance I actually smelled from this candle. I think I was expecting a more tangy orange scent rather than a classic orange vanilla fragrance. This candle didn't quite smell like a classic orange vanilla though. I want to say it smelled more like a Life Savers orange/cream piece of candy. It had a candy quality to it and the cream part I smelled was very sweet and sugary.

The scent throw on this candle is in between light to medium. I burned two candles in my great room and although I could smell the fragrance pretty clear, it wasn't strong. The fragrance is very subtle. I did like this fragrance but I don't know if I liked it enough to actually purchase it again. That's me!  On the other hand, if you like sweet creamy orange scents, you may like Salt City's version and may want to give it a try.

Now, I liked this candle, a lot! I think because I love melon fragrances so much. I can't find this scent on Salt City's website so I'm not sure if they discontinued it or if it's just on hiatus for awhile. But, if you love melon scents and you find this candle anywhere, buy it. It smells really good.

When I smelled this candle for the first time, it actually smelled so faint that I thought it would be a dud. Then I decided to light it and dude, my house filled with a melon-ee sweetness that had me sniffing away all day long. As with Orange Passion, the scent throw wasn't super strong but it was strong enough to tease my nose all day. It smelled like watermelon with a little bit of cream. It was different enough to catch my notice and it also caught my husbands' attention as well.  I found him on several occasions sniffing the air and telling me he liked this candle. Take that as a compliment Salt City. You got the stamp of approval from my picky "pine expert".

I love lemon!  It's my favorite scent ever so by default, my nose was drawn to this candle automatically. Let's start off with the scent description on Salt City's website for this candle:

"A grove of lemon trees dazzles the eye-first with delicate citrus-scented blossoms and then later with a bumper crop of tart tangy lemons. With proven healing, cleansing and energizing properties, the lemon is a versatile natural wonder."

Now that's a pretty good description and sold me yet again! I give this company an A+ on descriptions, that's for sure. Now, if only the fragrance actually smelled like that! I guess I expected a tart and zesty lemon scent from the description and this scent was far from that. It's definitely lemon but it wasn't tart or tangy at all.

When I first sniffed this candle, I was a little disappointed because the scent was very light. I bought two candles in this fragrance and lit both in my great-room. It took well over an hour before I began to notice the scent and from then on, it did smell good but again, the scent throw remained consistently light. Half the time, I couldn't even smell it unless I left the room and came back in.

This was a really unusual lemon scent to me. It didn't smell like candy or pie and it wasn't tart or tangy.  If I had to label it something, I would say it resembled Lemon Chiffon scents I've tried in the past. I have no idea what "chiffon" is but that's what it reminded me of.

So in closing, I did enjoy my Lemon Tree candles but if I'm being honest, this fragrance didn't knock my socks off like other lemon fragrances I've tried. When I burn lemon candles, I prefer them to be strong and this one was just too subtle and soft for my personal taste. So, if I order from Salt City again, I think I'll pass on this one.

How Did My Salt City Candles Burn?
All my candles were poured weird. If you were looking down into the candle, it looked like when the wax was poured, it spilled up the sides of the glass higher than the wick creating a valley around the wick.  So, the candles never stood a chance to burn right from the start because the wax around the lip of the jar couldn't melt. I had to use my wick dipper on every one of them to push the wax from the sides into the wax pool so all the wax got used up. It's not that big of a deal but I still wanted to point that out. Once I cleared that up, my candles seemed to burn okay.
Overall Opinion of My Candles from Salt City:

salt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle companyThese candles were "ok", nothing special. I did like Melon Cream, I would purchase that one again for sure if available but that's about it. Personally, I think this company needs to vamp things up a bit to keep up with the competition out there. Reading the reviews on the board pretty much confirms that as 95% of them are non-favorable so I can safely say the majority of you agree with me. A lot of their fragrances have an "air-freshener"quality to them that isn't desirable to the majority of us who prefer more authentic fragrances.

Who knows, I may end up giving this company a try again sometime in the future. Every one deserves a second chance so we'll see.
