Deja  vu Candle Co. was new territory for me. Their website is really pretty with everything laid out beautifully and very easy to navigate through. They have a nice selection of candle sizes and plenty of fragrances to choose from so I had my usual fun time deciding what to order. While browsing the menu, I didn't have anything specific in mind so I just picked "this" and "that" until I had my usual case full which seems to be my standard "MO".

I like to read testimonials on websites so I read several on Deja  vu's to get a better feel for the company. To me, the more testimonials the better because that means people loved the candles enough to take the time to write one. There were plenty for me to read and all were positive (which of course is expected) so I felt comfortable ordering my usual amount.

I know I've said this before that it's hit and miss with any candles you purchase. Some candles you like, some you don't. I wish I could say that I loved every fragrance I tried from Deja  vu but I didn't. The quality is not in question, I just didn't care for a few fragrances I ordered (some smelled very stale & chemically to me). One thing I always do when I have an issue with candles I purchase is let the company know. I think that is SO important because most candle makers are so prideful of their work and want you to be happy. Problems may not always get resolved but in most cases, they do. So, I emailed Cara, owner of Deja  vu about my candles I wasn't happy with. It turns out, the candles I bought were on a closeout and the wax formula was older on a few of them. Her wax formula has since changed and improved so Cara sent me two fragrances recently added to her scent list which I loved called Buttermint Candy & Berry-licious. Another scent that really tickled my nose was the fragrance, Spoil Me Rotten, all three being reviewed today.

What Do My Deja Vu Candles Look Like?

My Spoil Me Rotten candle is a simple 8oz jelly jar with a gold lid and a gold Deja  vu label on the front. The wax color is a bright orange and had one wick. Buttermint Candy is a 12oz apothecary jar with a flat glass lid. It is double wicked and the wax color is mint blue. Berry-licious is also 12oz, same jar style, the wax color is red. (The candle in the photo to the left is their 18 oz. jar size)

How Did My Candles Smell?

Buttermint Candy:

I think it's becoming obvious to you all that I love summer/fruity fragrances but honestly, it's pretty easy for me to switch into winter mode and break out all those warm, yummy fragrances more appropriate for cooler weather. For me, mint fragrances are a must and I typically always have a mint fragrance burning somewhere in my house. I enjoy just about any kind of mint but my favorites are the cool peppermint ones. I love how it puts a crisp feel in the air and that it's such a refreshing fragrance to breathe in.

I lit my candle early morning in my bedroom and a respectable 15 minutes later, I began to notice the fragrance. Buttermint Candy reminded me of a York Peppermint Patty. It has creamy sweetness to it with a cool bite of peppermint that I just love. Deja  vu's description for this fragrance is:

"A minty-buttery aroma that starts out with a true, smooth, peppermint scent, and is then rounded off with a buttery warmth -- exactly like an after-dinner mint. You won't believe how edible this one smells! This is a true buttermint! Excellent!"

Buttermint Candy didn't smell fake at all and the description is right, you almost want to eat it. My favorite after dinner mints are Nestle's After Eight dark chocolate mints and man, it's pretty close. No chocolate though, just smooth creamy mint. The scent throw on this candle is pretty good and the air had a nice minty bite to it just like I love. This one's a winner and one I would purchase again.

Mmmm, Spoil Me Rotten smelled really good and was one of my favorites out of the bunch I ordered. It has all the fruity and tart flavors that I love and had a nice tangy bite to it that I'm always after when searching for fruity candle fragrances. The description for this scent is:

"Cold juicy exotic citrus fruits including mandarin oranges and juicy pineapples. Refreshing!"

This scent was indeed refreshing and my two little 8oz jars scented my great-room quite nicely.I can definitely smell the mandarin oranges and I think that was my favorite part. The fragrance reminded me of a tart piece of orange candy, like those sour gummy candies that are shaped like a piece of fruit with all that sour sugar coating on the outside. That's exactly what this scent reminded me of. I do enjoy candles that smell like candy, especially tart and tangy ones. It would have been easy to take a bite out of this candle if I could have. Definitely give this scent a try if you enjoy candles the smell of tart orange.

Berry-licious:

I knew the moment I smelled this candle, I was going like it. It smells just like Kool-Aid powder mix. I LOVE that smell!! It's candy/tart/fruity sweetness all wrapped up into one delectable candle.

I lit my Berry-licious candle in my bedroom and I actually started to notice the fragrance right away. This candle gives a nice strong scent throw and it smells exactly like it did when I first smelled it, just like Kool-Aid. The scent Description for this scent on Deja vu's website is:

"BERRY-LICIOUS -This one will make you thirsty! Smells just like the original Juicy Red Hawaiian Punch drink. All that's missing is the dancing Hawaiian guy! You will love this one!"

That's a pretty good description. I burned this candle to the very end and every time I walked into my bedroom, I couldn't help but wish for summer because it's such a perfect fragrance for summer. I'm definitely buying this one again!

If I didn't keep my wicks trimmed, they did smoke a little but that seems to be consistent with any candle when the wicks aren't trimmed. I'm pretty fanatical about candle maintenance so these candles did burn and perform beautifully for me.  No soot or leftover wax.

Customer Service was great. My order shipped very fast and I received it within a week of placing my order. I ordered over a dozen fragrances, out of the bunch, I didn't like 3. I can't say that I wasn't disappointed over it but I also don't think that's unusual either. I've ordered candles from many companies where I didn't like a fragrance but loved others. The majority of my candles were great.

I also think this company has clever names for a lot of their fragrances. They're just very creative and I like that. Would I purchase from this company again, definitely and I may even order the 3 I didn't originally care for. I've also noticed some new fragrances added to their menu since I placed my order that look quite interesting. For those of you reading this review that have already burned some Deja  vu candles, please post your opinions on our review board, I'd be really interested to read some more feedback on this company.
