Introduction to My Carolina Candle Review...
My teenage daughter had some gift cards from Christmas to spend at Kohls so logically, she made a beehive for the clothing department, I on the other hand dove toward the candle section (where else?). I love smelling all the candles and checking out the prices. For a store brand, For Every Body is pretty decent and I can always find a candle or two (3, 4 or 5) that smell good enough to buy.
Being that I'm reviewing Valentines Day scents, I went straight toward the Valentines Kiosk to see what candles were available for the occasion. That's when I saw a new brand I hadn't seen before, or probably just never paid attention to called Carolina Candles. They had a few scents for Valentines but the one that looked the prettiest was Mulberry Wine so that's the one I bought to review.
What Does My Mulberry Wine Candle Look Like?
My candle is in a classic glass apothecary jar with a slightly rounded lid (not domed). If you're familiar with the classic White Barn Candle Jars, they look just like them. A label tied with elastic is around the neck of the jar with a picture of mulberries and the company name on it. The color of the wax is a deep burgundy and the candle has a single wick.
How Did My Mulberry Wine Candle Smell?
When I was popped open the lid to this candle, a weird berry scent hit my nose right away. It had a bitter smell that reminded me of cough medicine that I'm guessing had to be the wine part. There have been many times I've hesitated buying a candle because it smelled weird and bought it anyway. As soon as I burn it, it smells great and totally different that it did cold. So, I bought this one since I love mulberry. I also couldn't walk out of the store empty handed… fat chance that happens around me.
So,¦ Mulberry Wine, I lit my candle in my bedroom and about a half hour later, I came back to the stench of nasty cough medicine, YUCK!! Sorry Carolina Candle Co but it smelled the exact same way as it did cold. I let it burn anyway hoping it would miraculously change into the tart mulberry I love, didn't happen.
And the saga continues, my husband came home. I didn't say a word when he walked into our bedroom to change (hehe). 5 minutes later, he walked out and said, "Eeeew" what candle are you burning Christina?... it stinks! It smells like a nursing home! HAHA!! A nursing home folks!! Now personally, I didn't think it smelled THAT bad (that's a little harsh), but then again, this man smells my candles every day and puts up with it. When they stink, he lets me know.
In closing, although this candle would be considered a Valentines Day candle, I do NOT recommend you buy it if you're trying to create a romantic atmosphere. It will do the opposite, trust me..
How Did My Mulberry Wine Candle Burn?
Sadly, I can't report on how this candle burned because I couldn't burn it past 2 hours.
Overall Opinion of Mulberry Wine Candle & Carolina Candle Co:
I'll have to try more candles from this company before I base an official opinion. I did not like Mulberry Wine at all but that doesn't mean their other fragrances will be the same. Next time I'm at Kohls, I'll buy more of this brand if only out of curiosity. I don't like giving a bad review but I also have to be honest at the same time.
I went on Carolina Candles official website and found out these candles can only be purchased at retail stores which are listed on their website. Kohls is one of several. I also want to point out that I think $14.99 is way overpriced for this candle line and suggest if you dare to try them, wait till you hit a sale. Had I paid 15 bucks for this candle, I would have had a fit after burning it.
