Amber Romance:

To me, Amber is a very musky, woodsy type scent and I think on the perfumy side of the "earthy" spectrum. I do like amber and prefer it over patchouli or sandalwood any day of the week.  I was sent an 8oz tin in this fragrance and decided to burn it in a smaller bathroom to see how it faired, and it was perfect there.  Here is the scent description for this fragrance:

"One of Down South Candles best seller, Amber Romance marries the ever popular sandalwood with a musky vanilla fragrance and ensures that you won't find a more inviting scent.  A favorite with many of our customers, this fragrance is a dreamy dance of vanilla and light musk flowing with the alluring scents of black currant, fresh plums, and ripe pineapple.  Beloved by men and women alike for the pleasing aroma that fills the room from the first light until the last flicker."

Now that's more like it with description... reading that, I know what to expect to a certain degree.  Out of the 4 scents I tried from this company, this one was my favorite.  I smelled the amber loud and clear but I also detected sweet fruity notes and mixed together, the scent was quite lovely.  Every time I walked in the room this candle was burning in, I took deep breathes of this beautiful fragrance.

The scent throw was medium, not super strong but perfect.  To me, anything stronger would have been overkill and overpowering.  What a romantic sensual scent, definitely buy this one if you're an amber fan.

Southern Sunshine:

This was a nice and different lemon scent and for obvious reasons, it's safe to say I enjoyed it.  We're talking lemon here folks! The candle I received was small so I had to burn this one in a smaller room. The scent throw was nice and strong so I'm sure a bigger jar would be perfect in a larger sized room.  Here is the scent description for Southern Sunshine:

"Theres nothing quite as beautiful as a sunny day down south. This scent has a citrus appeal with top notes of freshly squeezed lemons.  Fresh, delightful and truly reminiscent of that beautiful southern sunshine!"

Hmmm, I smelled lemon for sure but there was more to this scent because my nose was definitely detecting it.  So, I emailed Down South and asked them what else was in this fragrance and they said sweet orange is also present.  That's interesting because I would have never guessed orange but now that I know it's an ingredient, I can detect orange.  Both are blended very well giving a smooth citrus scent.

Southern Sunshine definitely gets a two thumbs up.  It's a great summer scent and sure to brighten up any room it's burning in.

The smaller candles burned clean.  The lager 16oz candle did leave some wax residue but I think because it was single wicked.  I used my wick dipper to push any leftover wax into the melt pool so nothing got wasted.  All 4 candles burned with no soot or smoke.

Overall Opinion of My Candles & Down South Candle Company:

I did have a pleasant experience shopping on this site.  It was a little hard to navigate through but I recently learned from the owner of the company, Angela, that her site is getting a complete makeover which will be live within the next two weeks. She said it will be much easier to navigate through.  How exciting! I can't wait to see how it looks.

As for the candles I tried, I did enjoy them.  Some fragrances were lighter than others which I think is quite normal. My candles were also small so it's harder to gauge actual scent strength burning smaller candles.  I loved all the actual fragrances I picked, but my favorite of the bunch was Amber Romance.  It was a very beautiful scent and I definitely recommend that one if you love amber scents.

This company does not normally offer shipping breaks but they are offering one the entire month of July so that would be a great time to try some candles if you're interested. The special is $8.00 flat rate shipping no matter how much you order.

Give this company a try, I think they do offer quality products and as an added bonus, you get that famous southern hospitality southerners are famous for.
