Introduction to my review:
Angie's Country Candles is a really cute website... very country in style with a homey type feel. A classic Mom and Pop shop I know many of you love to shop on including "moi". This site is very easy to navigate with all their products clearly displayed and categorized.
Angie's Country Candles offers several style candles from mercantile to grubby, prim (which look like mason jars to me), pillars and even very primitive rustic bucket style candles. Very cool selection... especially if you love country style or southwestern decor. They also sell bakery shaped candles such as pie shapes, bundt cakes, cinnamon rolls, coffee mugs, enamelware candles and last but not least, melts in a few shapes and sizes. Phew, that was a mouthful. Seems like their offering goes on and on... I guess you could say I was impressed. Who doesn't love shopping on sites that offer a variety? They also have a bath and body section selling all kinds of bath goodies along with body butters and handmade soaps.
I counted 122 fragrances on their scent list but it could be more. All I know is reading the scent list is a bakery scented lovers dream. TONS of yummy bakery scents to choose from!! This was a hard one trying to choose what to review... I try and limit myself to reviewing 3 scents total but man, it was hard deciding what to pick from this company. I ended up with Bear Claws, Crow Pie and Prairie Cakes. Had to try the last two scents just from the scent names alone... Bear Claws was chosen because Angie (the owner) said I had to try it. She sent me 10oz mason jars and melts galore to the pleasure of my nose.
What do my Candles and Grubby Melts from Angie's Country Candles Look Like?
These candles are SO cute, A+ for presentation. The jar itself is a square mason jar but what I liked was the lid. Very cool rustic lid with a big clear star in the center. Homespun ribbon is tied around the candles with a tag indicating the scent name. Very excellent presentation giving these candles a nice warm country feel.
The melts are grubby in style. They have that mottled/clumpy look which I think looks so cool. Very generous sizes too. I think melt lovers will be very pleased... very pleased indeed.
How did my Candles from Angie's Country Candles Smell?
Bear Claw
I decided to burn this candle in my bedroom with some melts (same scent) going in my great-room. The candle didn't really work in my bedroom because the room is huge and the candle just couldn't keep up. So, I ended up moving it into a smaller room (a large bathroom) where the scent throw was much stronger. Before I get into what I thought of the scent, here is the description from Angie'swebsite:
A rich, flaky pastry with sweet cinnamon, maple and nuts! Best Seller!
Oh my gosh, the melts ROCK!!! The scent description is right, it's such a rich and warm scent and man is the throw on these melts strong. It smelled like bakery raisin doughy bread with a tiny bit of cinnamon, YUM!! The candle smelled a tad different than the melts and I'm not sure why. I think the flame has something to do with it but that's just a guess... I could be wrong. All I know is after 20 minutes of burning, I was greeted to a nice warm cinnamon bakery scent, but not as doughy like the melts.
End result... this is a great bakery scent and a must try if you order from this company.
Prairie Cakes
This is just a personal opinion but I did not care for this scent from the get-go. When I first sniffed it... I couldn't really make out anything specific. It smelled okay but it just didn't "wow" me like Bear Claws did. The name sold me though... "Prairie Cakes", what a cute name. Here's the scent description: "A sweet vanilla pumpkin nut cake with a touch of cinnamon and pralines made just like they did in days gone by... Very unique! Our own scent creation!"
Hmmm... that sounded really good.
I started out with melts and I couldn't believe that after hours of melting, I could hardly smell any fragrance. As a matter of fact, I totally forgot what I was melting which tells me one thing... not an impressionable scent to me. Ugh!! I hate it when that happens. In defense though, it could have been me having a really off nose day. It's happened.
The candle was no different... it gave off a very subtle fragrance. Just smelling it, I could make out pumpkin but not anything else in the description. I don't know, I feel really bad but this scent was not my cup of tea.
Crow Pie Now this scent was definitely my cup of tea and a world of difference to my nose from Prairie Cakes. Yummy scent!! "Sweet brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, raisens all within a crumb topping! Our own scent creation!"
You know, any scent description that has cinnamon, butter and crumbs in it catches my eye. Chances are... I'm gettin' it. I love it when my house smells like cinnamon bakery dough!
I received a 10oz candle along with melts and went for the candle first. I started burning it in my bedroom which is usually the room I use to gauge scent strength on the candles I review. This is a good sized room and this little candle did quite well there. So, great scent throw and on a scale of 1 to 10, I give in a 9 easy.
What was I smelling? A nice bakery cinnamon scent. The scent easily fragranced the entire room and when I walked into the room, I was greeted to a nice homey cinnamon aroma. I would also say more cinnamon that bakery. The melts were even better... much stronger than the candles and definitely room fillers. The fragrance with the melts smelled different from the candle too. The melts were definitely more bakery and I could actually smell all the ingredients in the scent description. It was wonderful and I loved it!! A must have for cinnamon bakery lovers. This reminded me of bear claws with a nice twist.
How did My Candles burn? My candle burned great. I kept my wicks trimmed and had no waste or soot.
Overall opinion of Angie's Country Candles:
I really enjoyed the candles and melts I sampled from this company. One of the key factors I look for when shopping on a candle site is their scent list... I love a nice beefy scent list and this site definitely had a nice selection.
Their prices are very good as well. Their candles are competitively priced but their melts are even better. Nine generous sized melts for 6 bucks. That's a pretty good deal and the packaging is super cute.
Another plus to this company is they charge flat rate shipping. I LOVE that because when I buy, I BUY and when I get shipping breaks and I liked the product, I'm likely to come back for more and lots more. I'm definitely ordering from this company again in the future and highly recommend them to all of you and from one enabler to another... I say go for it!!
