Being the candle nut that I am, I'm subscribed to quite a handful of newsletters from some of my favorite candle companies.  I don't want to miss a beat!  One candle site that I'm on a "must-be-a-subscriber" basis with is Pacifica... I always want to be up-to-date with them.  Christina, Dawn and I are all fans of their candles.  I know when all 3 of us candle-crazed women enjoy the same brand, we've got a winner on our hands. Candles from Pacifica are very unique and definitely stand out from the "super-strong" candles we're usually after around here.  Most of their candles have softer throws and work great for bathrooms or small rooms, but their scents are so incredible and unique, we can't help but love them.

A lot of the smaller "homespun" kind of candle companies we review tend to have scent lists that resemble each other.  If you're a seasoned online candle shopper, I'm sure you know what I mean.  You see the usual run-of-the-mill scents on so many sites like Apple Pie, Sugar Cookie, Birthday Cake, Cinnamon Bun, your basic fruit scents, florals, etc.  Pacifica's scents on the other hand, are definitely one of a kind...I don't think you can find the same scents from other companies.  Scents like Tuscan Blood Orange, Zanzibar Cinnamon Almond and Bali Lime Papaya grace the pages of Pacifica's web store.  We love it around here when we find companies that offer such unique scents.  It gives us something different to smell and is a welcomed change.

About a month ago, I was weeding through my email and noticed a new message from Pacifica.  They were announcing 3 new scents! It's not everyday that Pacifica turns out new fragrances, so I was intrigued.  The new scents are Caribbean Sugar Pumpkin, Bourbon Island Vanilla and Seabrook Cranberry.  I'm sharing my thoughts on Caribbean Sugar Pumpkin and Bourbon Island Vanilla with you today.

What Do My Pacifica Candles Look Like?

I decided to try Pacifica's new scents in their 8oz. soy candle tins.  (My favorite!)  The last time I burned their tins, they were plain silver on the outside, but this time I noticed they have a new design.  The tins are now designed with swirls of light and dark shades of gold.  It kind of reminds me of a jungle or safari theme.  I don't blame them for changing them, this new design really makes their tins stand out from the rest of the silver candle tins you see everywhere.  It also adds a greater touch of class which is nice.  Pacifica's whole image including their candles and web site always looks so classy and sophisticated.  I love it!

Each tin has one wick.  The label for each candle is on the lid of each tin and has an image that corresponds with the scent.  The wax colors are orange for Caribbean Sugar Pumpkin and light cream for Bourbon Island Vanilla.

How Did My Pacifica Candles Smell?

Caribbean Sugar Pumpkin:

The only pumpkin candle scent I've ever burned is your typical pumpkin pie so when I saw the name of this fragrance and read it's description, I was intrigued.  Here it is...

"Lemon-sugar laced with maple and nutmeg brighten the warm fleshy pumpkin notes in this modern blend."

Interesting description, huh?  I would never think to blend lemon-sugar with pumpkin, but leave it to Pacifica to be innovative.

The base and anchor of this scent is a very authentic, fleshy pumpkin smell.  Christina and I have talked before about this, but sometimes we can't get over the authenticity of Pacifica's scents.  They smell so real and natural, it's incredible...no matter what scent I try, there is never a trace of anything artificial.  That's how I feel about the pumpkin in this blend.  It smells 100% like the inner flesh of a pumpkin that's just right for the pickin'.

I can smell the nutmeg but it doesn't make this scent overly spicey... it's just enough to warm up the fleshy pumpkin like the description says.  I guess I smell a touch of maple but it's not very noticeable to me.  I can smell the lemon-sugar but it's very mild.  I would say the sugar is more noticeable than the lemon.  It's not overly sweet though... just right.

Overall, the mix of ingredients in this blend work so well together creating a comfy, warming fragrance.  If you like the smell of pumpkin, a touch of spice and warm scents in general, you'll probably enjoy this one. It's definitely a scent for the cozier time of year.  Remember, the scent strength (at least for my tin) isn't overly strong... this has been the perfect "powder-room candle" for me.
