A couple months ago I got an email from Ken Kremer, the Catalog Manager of Colonial at Home. Wow-ee, was I excited! Colonial at Home is one of the biggest names in the candle world and they were emailing little old me!!  :-)  Ken wanted to know if I'd like to try some of their scents for this summer. Heck yeah!  I've been wanting to post more reviews of Colonial at Home for a long time now, so what better way to get motivated!

Luckily I got to pick the scents... how fun.  Since summer is officially here now, I wanted to choose fragrances that would be appropriate to review for this time of year.  Everything on their site that sounded summery to me caught my eye...everything except scents with a floral note to them.  (You know how I can't stand florals in my candles!)  Anyway, after this-here indecisive chick browsed the Colonial at Home site for what felt like eons, I decided on the following scents...Sky Blue, Cafefree Morning, Iced Raspberry, Vanilla Passionfruit, Apricot Mango Sorbet and Citrus Blackberry.

When my candles arrived, I was happy to see that Ken thew in a few extra scented votives in Sea Glass, Blueberry Vanilla, Almond Cream and Simply Vanilla.  How nice!  In this review, I'm sharing my thoughts on my Sky Blue votive and Carefree Morning Tealights. I wanted to include Sea Glass in this review, but it has a floral in it and sometimes floral candles stir up my allergies, so I'm keeping my distance.  :-)  (Sorry floral-lovers! I'll be posting a floral review very soon from Dawn.)  As far as the fruity scents I chose from Colonial, I'll be reviewing them for you soon.

What Did My Votive & Tealight Look Like from Colonial at Home?

My Sky Blue votive is obviously the color of the beautiful blue sky on a clear day.  After I burned it, I noticed on Colonial's site they offer a larger votive in addition to their standard size.  I think my votive may have been the larger size because it didn't come wrapped like my other votives.  On their site, it looks like the larger ones aren't wrapped with cellophane & decorative labels like their standard size votives are.

My Carefree Morning tealights are light cream.  Colonial also offers two tealight sizes...the standard size that you see everywhere and then a larger size which are about three times bigger than their regular tealights.  Luckily the Carefree Morning tealights they sent me were the larger size. Ken told me they have a better scent throw than their votives, so I was pretty excited to try them.  Just for your reference, Colonial's larger tealights come in a pack of four and their standard size tealights come in packs of 9.

How Did My Candles from Colonial at Home Smell?

Sky Blue:

Burning Sky Blue was a nice change for me.  I'm always either burning total fruity scents or heavy bakery scents so my nose enjoyed something different like this. Here's the description from Colonial:

"A fresh, clean scent with hints of citrus, ginger and tea, in a glorious color of blue that evokes images of clear skies and sun drenched days by the shore."

No one ingredient seems to dominates Sky Blue. I can smell the hint of citrus, but can't really pick out the ginger or tea specifically. You might be able to pick them out, but my nose couldn't detect them. I'm sure they're there though because I'm not smelling just citrus.  It's very well-blended.

I totally agree with Colonial that Sky Blue falls under the Fress category of candle scents.  This fragrance is just perfect for these warmer months of the year we're in right now.  There's no heavyness to this scent at all. I burned this votive in my powder room and it created a light, breezy, blue sky feel in there that I really enjoyed... it's very refreshing to me.  Sky Blue definitely reminds me of those ideal 75 degree days we all love so much with low humidity and clear skies. Aaahh...who doesn't love a day like that?

The strength of this scent was just perfect for my powder room.  It filled the room with it's scent, but wasn't overpowering either... just perfect.  If you'd like to try this scent in a larger room, definitely get it in a larger container.  I haven't had much experience with them, but I don't think votives from Colonial are meant to fill the size of your average living room... unless you were burning a few of course.
