 Introduction to my review of all natural beeswax candles from eleVation:
Never underestimate simplicity.
When you click into the eleVations website, you see that it’s very simple. It is so unadorned that at first I had my doubts. No dancing cursors, no cutsey graphics! Nothing to make your eyes travel across the screen like a ball in a pinball game. What could this mean?
I had to wonder… could this signal a review that was going to be lackluster? Or, are they crazy like a fox - do they focus on a few products and do them well? I really was not sure what was ahead of me, but matches in hand, I lit the first of my three candles and let my curiosity take over.
The website, as I mentioned, is purpose-oriented. The logo is clever - the word “eleVation” has butterflies floating out of the “V” in soft pastels. Why are they called eleVations? Well, their catch phrase is “Gifts that elevate the mind, body and spirit“!
The products they offer include 2 styles of candles and 4 bath/body products, all with the same blue and white label. Adding to the simplicity - they only offer six aromatherapy scents. This is quite a departure from the reviews I have done in the past! |
What do my candles from eleVation Look like?
Simple! Elegant! I am trying the spa style candles, the ones that look like a clear drinking glass with the thick glass bottoms. The candles are 100% beeswax, natural colored, and the candles had double wicks. They also had a tiny label (that is meant to be removed) that contains the scent name. There are no other labels (even on the bottom, so you better remember where this candle came from if you want to reorder!) |
How do my all natural beeswax candles from eleVation smell?
Spearmint
This essential oil is uplifting for mind and body according to all the aromatherapy information I reviewed. Described as giving you “mental” calm.
(I’d like the jumbo size, please. No, no, no need to wrap ‘er up ma’m, and I will take it with me now.)
 Woo-wee! This packed a punch. I did not expect anything this strong. How do they do manage to do that from such a simple looking little candle, I ask?
I was down the hall from the testing room when I first got wisps of spearmint. Yes, it was impressive for a little glass candle! When I opened the door the of the “spearmint” room, I envisioned what it must be like to be an employee at Wrigley’s! There was no way I was going to ignore this scent - the room was about 12 by 14 and the scent was strong. It was a clean, clear, refreshing spearmint. I smelled a little chemical smell after it had burned for several hours, so I let it burn for an hour or so, then extinguished it and let it rest for awhile before I lit it up again. |
Grapefruit and Balsam
Aromatherapy properties of grapefruit include “creating an uplifting spirit”, and it is also thought to be a mental and physical stimulant. The Balsam essential oil is known for calming the mind, and focused attention. Of course there are many other benefits as well!
This sounds like a blend that I would want to burn. I like the unusual, and I can not remember seeing this blend scent lists before. The cold sniff is pine. When I burn the candle it does not take long (30 mins) for the melt pool to get big enough to pack a sizeable throw. Burning, the two “sharp” scents blend, but the grapefruit zest gets the upper hand. I have to say that my nose picked up too much of the astringent notes, and it was too intense. What to do?!?! I loved the idea of this scent and really liked the cold sniff, so, I set it on the candle warmer to see if I got different results.
What a great decision - the fruity part of the grapefruit pops out, the zest and the pine-ish balsam is tamed and it is absolutely wonderful. I love the flame of these candles, but for this scent I will sacrifice - the “melter” scent is just too good! |
 Rosemary Rose
Aromatherapy properties: Rose essential oil comes from the petals and is used for calming and sedative purposes. Its partner, Rosemary, sharpens the senses, along with uplifting mood. No wonder these candle burners are such happy folk!
Mmmmm - this is a really unique scent! Cold sniffing gives mainly the sweet and floral scent of the rose. Early burning give a nice blend of the rose scent with the pungent camphor/woodsy scent coming from the rosemary. After this blend had been burning for an hour, the scent was an interesting melange of the two, yet it had a citrus note that I could not blame on either the rose or the rosemary! This scent lingered a long time in the testing room. I had closed the door when I finished, and two hours later I could still smell this wonderful aromatherapy scent. I left the testing room with my senses sharper, my mood uplifted! |
 How do my candles burn?
These candles burned without any trouble - the double wicks makes the melt pool quickly and keeps the top layer melted for about ¾ inch. After prolonged burning, I did trim the wicks a bit as one wick mushroomed a little, (the Spearmint needed it the most), but really no more than I have had to trim on many other candles before. There was no wax on the side, and no soot. |
Final thoughts on my all natural beeswax candles from eleVation:
Sometimes simplicity can surprise you! I must admit that the throw on these candles caught me off guard. Also, I have not burned many beeswax candles, and for the record, these were clean and low maintenance.
eleVations “spa” type aromatherapy candles have wonderful unique scents, although I found setting them on a warmer gave a truer scent than burning them, if you burn long term - longer than one hour.
I enjoyed burning and testing these aromatherapy candles and I look forward to trying the three remaining eleVation's scents!
