Trick or Treat - Something good to eat!

There are many ways to celebrate this time of year but one thing's for certain - you will find oodles and oodles of candy just about everywhere!

Ding Dong! Julia rounded up...

Trick or Treat

...from Country Home Scents (A true "treat" of a fragrance for Halloween and autumn! The aroma begins with a wonderful blend of pumpkin, persimmon and apple; and ends with a touch of orange, cinnamon and vanilla!)

Julia was sure to tell us:

This melt was a trick and a treat. The treat being how perfectly Autumnal it smelled, and the trick being how festive it looked. The melt was black with orange “icing” drizzled over the top and dripped down the sides with a Trick or Treat melts from Country Home Scentssprinkling of glittery orange and black nonpareils’. The scent was a burst of fall fruits and spices. I caught notes of apple and persimmon which smelled a little like sugar plums. The orange and spice were just the right pairing for this scent. It was a lively departure from Autumn's bounty of bakery scents. Trick or Treat was decidedly not bakery but instead made for a spicy deep fruity blend. I was pleased with the scent throw from Trick or Treat. I used a standard electric combo warmer and the scent filled my large main area.

Candy Corn

If there is an official candy for Halloween, it must be candy corn and Avery dug into a handful of it from Yankee Candle.

Yankee Candles - Candy Corn scented candleThere are certain signs you look for - robins announcing spring, missing cookies on the mantle meaning Santa has made a visit and the Yankee Candle Boney Bunch catalog in your mailbox declaring that Halloween shopping has begun! You have to admit, even if you are not one of the many loyal die-hard Yankee fans, you make a point of heading to the website to check out their seasonal decorations. They rock!

Yankee has a couple of favorites for Halloween. This one, Candy Corn, has a fabulous label. The illustration is creepy without being scary - it features a pumpkin headed character tossing candy corn! This has always been one of the lighter Yankee fragrancess to my nose. This bright orange tart has a nice, sugary smell. It is subtle, but in step with real candy corn - I don’t believe most think of it as a “fragrant” candy! And, like real candy corn, all the Halloween treats "a la" Yankee are addicting!

Plain 'ol candy corn not your cup of tea? How about Julia's find...

Crazy Candy Corn

...from Country Home Scents (Smells just like the sweet scent of our Halloween favorite! A touch of honey and caramel... a must have for the fall season!)

According to Julia:

This cute orange colored melt had an actual candy corn on top with Crazy Caramel Corn from Country Home Scentsinstructions to remove the candy before melting. It can’t officially be Halloween without candy corn and this scent was a sweet reminder of how much I like those little candy kernels. Not only do they taste great, they make darn good vampire fangs when you stick two of them up under your lip. Come on...I’ll bet you’ve done it...Ha! Crazy Candy Corn smelled like scrumptious sugary buttercream with hints of honey. The scent filled my kitchen long enough to make me seriously consider making a candy run to the store down the street. Melt this scent with extreme caution. It will cast a spell on your sweet tooth and strip away all power to resist.

Don't feel like ringing any doorbells? Don't fear...you can still satisfy that sweet tooth with a sugary confection Julia found at Crosscreek Country Candles called...

Happy Halloween Cake

(This is my favorite new Halloween/Fall blend and I'm sure you'll love it too! Moist marble cake layered with sweet candy corn candies and gooey marshmallow topping. - a Crosscreek Country Candles exclusive blend)

Julia notes:

Nothing says “Happy Halloween” like candy corn, and when it’s mixed with Happy Halloween Cake from Crosscreek Country Candlescake and marshmallow, well, it’s the happiest Halloween ever. This scent was spooky good. I smelled extra sweet cake and candy corn fit for a goblin. The melt itself was layered in frothy white and orange colors. Instead of the usual pumpkin spices that I’d been smelling all week, I got a big whiff of white cake in this scent and a smidge of chocolate cake. Phenomenal scent. Not only do I want more of Happy Halloween Cake this season, I found myself hoping to see it return every Halloween. This is a great scent to grab in Crosscreek Country Candles’ Halloween shaped melts.

Halloween Fairs & Festivals

If you're still looking for a way to celebrate the occasion, there should be plenty of fairs and festivals to attend.

Julia enjoyed...

Fall Festival

...from Candles From The Keeping Room (This is a big room scent, it is a cinnamon blended with some fall type spices).

Julia describes:

Fall festivals are the best kind of festivals around here. The air finally begins to cool after a long hot Summer. The harvest moon glows large inFall Festival from Candles from the Keeping Room the sky. Everyone seems energized by the new briskness in the air. Candles from the Keeping Room has captured this feeling of being energized by the changing season. It has a cheerful assortment of autumn spices with cinnamon at the forefront. This scent really set the mood for Halloween with its gusty wind and colorful leaves that crunch under our feet when we step. The scent was tailor made for my large main area of the house. I find that anything with cinnamon usually fills my home and lasts a good long time. I got a lot of bang from this super scent. The melt I tried was a pretty orange grubby melt. I noticed that Candles from the Keeping Room currently offers this scent in gorgeous leaf shapes and colors.

Sticking with the Halloween fair theme, Avery brought us...

Sweet Popcorn Balls

(Kettle Corn and Marshmallow popcorn balls!)

Cleanse Your Soul is known for unusual scents, and scent grab bags for the holidays. We had hoped to have a selection of scents for this review, but publishing deadlines required that we pilfer a tart out of another stash - the postman did not make it here in order to review a bunch. Surely the post-person would not drive around Halloween scented candle reviewextra days with this fragrant package in the back to enjoy the scent … or would she/he?

The scent scored is a good one. Do not, under any circumstance, melt this tart on an empty stomach. Sweet Popcorn Balls was a tan scalloped tart that smelled like real sugar-salty popcorn, just like the Kettle Corn we know and love. Marshmallow may have been in there, but the sugary corn had my attention.

Again, let me say it: do not melt this if you are hungry! Imagine the horror of tackling your poor child as he/she innocently walks in the door on Halloween night with their bulging bag full of sweets and treats! Before they knew what hit them, you would be gobbling down their Halloween treats, attempting to calm down the growling tummy you created with this tart.

Yes, it smells that good.

No fair is complete without the funnel cake booth. Powdered sugar or cinnamon? No matter your pleasure, Andrea found that Crosscreek Candles kicked it up a notch with...

Funnel Cake Fluff

(deep fried funnel cake blended with sweet cotton candy.)Funnel Cake Fluff

Andrea noted:

Mmmmmm... two delicious treats rolled into one! This scent certainly had me in the mindset of state fair treats. The funnel cake scent was light with some touches of cinnamon. I've found plain funnel cake scents to be sort of bland, but the addition of the sugary cotton candy made this one much more intriguing. The cotton candy was in the background...sort of like an end note. This scent gave a really good scent throw in a medium sized room. Yum-my!

I think Deb just got a little hungry with Andrea's funnel cake wafting up her nose.... so not to be outdone... she added...

Spooky Strudel

... from Blue Moon Candles. I am really not sure what to expect from a strudel with a name like this? I can envision warm brown toasty strudel dough with snakes and spider legs poking out from it. That would me MY version of spooky, but lucky Spooky Sdrudel scented melt reviewfor me, that is not what I am smelling! (Can you even imagine - NO! Don’t!)

I am smelling a traditional apple strudel - with all the spices. What makes this one special is that the spice blend is not overloaded with cinnamon - it is a great spice combo, and I think that I am smelling nutmeg along with the buttery apples and dough.

This tart brittle has a medium strong throw, no arachnid appendages noted

Scarecrows & Autumn Leaves

Since Halloween is always celebrated during the Fall season, you'll also be sure to find fallen leaves and maybe a few stuffed scarecrows about.

Julia rustled up...

Halloween Leaves

...from Luna Bleu (This tantalizing scent blends spicy pumpkin puree with sweet butter and vanilla cream. apple, strawberry, cranberry, cinnamon, pumpkin and clove with tiny floral notes of jasmine and musk. All the sweet and spicy fragrances of fall come together in this unique Scary Halloween Scarecrowsscent. This is not a food-type scent." This smells like sweet Halloween Leaves a perfect Autumn scent, I love this one.)

Julia says:

I enjoyed this scent. Oddly, though, I didn’t smell what I expected. I couldn’t get a handle on any pumpkin or butter and very little spice. It had me wondering if I had the right scent. What I did smell was a clean fresh fruity scent with definite light floral tones like marigold. I smelled some apple and cranberry and thought I caught a citrus edge, but that wasn’t listed in the description. The scent was really nice. It was strong but not overpowering. I liked the name Halloween Leaves. Even though I didn’t get a big Halloween vibe from the scent, it was still quite good and would smell great all year round.

Round those leaves up for a bonfire and you just might have...

Autumn Embers

... from Ten Digit Creations (a warm and smoky fragrance of crackling pine, evergreen twigs and warm spices like cinnamon bark and clove buds; all snuggled seamlessly in a base of robust patchouli leaf with an ever so slight hint of citrus peel).

Julia noted on this one:

Autumn Embers is like fall leaves raked into a pile and burned. That has Autumn Embers scented melt reviewgot the quintessential outdoor smell of autumn. Summer has its fresh mowed grass smell, but autumn has colorful dried leaves smoldering in a burn pile. That’s what I wanted from this scent… it was the whole reason for choosing Autumn Embers and I must say, the scent lived up to my expectations and then some. The “and then some” was the sheer strength of the scent, almost headachey strong had I melted the entire tart all at once. As it was, I cut this foil wrapped tart in half. It was plenty strong and I got to enjoy the scent twice instead of just one time. Who could ask for more? This is a terrific scent for fall.

Witches & Black Cats

Black cats and witches will be found in abundance - casting spells all about. Witches & Black Cats

Julia wandered upon some...

Hocus Pocus

from Luna Bleu (Fruit Loop Cereal and Amour de Cacao a magical combination of Fruity Cereal, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla and Bitter Orange)

Julia muses:

Imagine opening up a kid’s trick or treat bag after collecting gobs of candy throughout the neighborhood. Have you got that image in your mind? Now imagine sticking your face into the bag and inhaling as deeply as possible. Ahhhh. We have arrived. Candy coma! Chocolate, caramels, fruity jujubes, skittles and… hey…. where did these healthy crackers come from?... toss those. This magical potion is all about sweet decadence. I smelled the cocoa and bitter chocolate most prominently. Hocus Pocus was a candy coated spell cast at just the right time of year. The melt was plenty strong and filled the main area of my home for hours. The melt was a pretty light purple with sprinkles and a cool Halloween label.

Avery was spellbound by...

Celtic Moonspice

Celtic Moon Spice from Blue Moon Candles...from Blue Moon Candles.

Avery noted:

We can't forget a traditional scent of fall - Celtic Moonspice. You know it by its warm, spicy scent blend of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. Blue Moon has taken it up a notch - these pieces of tart brittle contain the expected fragrance, but the strong throw is very rich, and I can really appreciate how luscious this version is. The tart chunks add to the spirit of our Halloween melting - the pieces are a light tan, and the edges are chiseled and broken like ancient tombstones. These brittle chunks gave off a powerful throw - they lasted about 2 hours, and once again going through the packaging is almost as fun as the melting.
